International
Some of our
international neighbors including Europe and
the U.S. are very active in promoting telework
in their own countries. Some even host their own
National telework day, week (or whatever). Many of them have sent us their
good wishes and support, and many more are
coming. They will be posted as we receive
them.
European
Telework Week Coordinator, and General Secretary
of the Belgian Teleworking Association Ian
Culpin: "When
a country like Canada, admired globally for its
quality of life, education, and technical
capabilities, believes it valuable to focus
public attention on Telework, then perhaps we
should all take some time to listen. New ways of
working - such as Telework - are helping to
transform our business and social lives. Many
view these changes with a degree of anxiety that
can be allayed by greater public understanding
of the issues. I am sure that Canadian Telework
Day will reach out and inform many both inside
and outside Canada, much as the European
Telework Week has done and continues to do.
The Information Society is a challenge that
confronts the whole world and perhaps we can
anticipate future cooperation in spreading the
message globally."
John
Edwards, President, International
Telework Association and Council (ITAC): "
2000 is a watershed
year for Telework both on the American continent
and worldwide. Canada’s Telework Day will
provide the launching pad for what will be an
amazing year. The “Business Case
Planets” have finally pulled themselves into
alignment – this is happening because of the
simultaneous need for: global competitiveness,
recruiting & retention of scarce
intellectual resources, work/life balance, and
societal/social concerns. As the incoming
President of ITAC, I am thrilled to be able to
support Canada’s programme with all the
resources at my disposal. Telework has
finally moved from the lunatic fringe image of
its original evangelists to become a mainstream
management strategy, which ensures
organizational survival in an ever more
competitive global economy."
Telework
America Day 1999: Largely a US-based telework celebration, Telework
America Day is also on Oct 27, the same day as Canadian
Telework Day. Telework America is managed by ITAC.
Miguel
Reynolds Brandão, President of
the Portuguese
Language Association for the Development of
Telework and CEO of Teleman):
"I send
you my best wishes for the success of the
Canadian Telework Day and I would like to let
you know that I'm impressed with your personal
commitment for the promotion of telework
through-out the world. I am looking forward to
work together with you in the future."
French
Teleworking Association President Nicole
Turbé-Suetens: "Lucky
Canadians! You are miles ahead of France having
a Telework Day ! Here, in this country, we only
had an attempt of a "car-less" day on
September 22nd for the second consecutive year.
The economical press even didn't mention it !
Moreover, no politician had the idea to create
the natural link between a day without cars and
telework. And we continue to suffer from
increasing stress, pollution and poor quality of
life for most of the workers. May be we could
learn from you how to do better."
European
Commission Directorate-General-Information
Society Peter
Johnston: "Telework is
already a reality for 9 million Europeans and
will be the employment future for millions more;
and for millions of Canadians. We must all learn
how to maximise the benefits for our
organisations, ourselves and our families, and
for our environment. European Telework Week and
Canadian Telework Day are again the
opportunities to get involved".
(Peter Johnston's support is underscored by UK
Prime Minister Tony Blair's enthusiastic support of telework which can
be seen at Telework 2000)
Greetings
from Chile: On behalf of the virtual
local teleworking community located in the
extreme opposite of the globe, through this I
send my sincerest good wishes and salute you on
the occasion of Telework Day in Canada, a
product of an unconditional, effective and
successful effort led by the CTA and
particularly you. Please extend these
congratulations to your partners. Denise
