Is telework
really for lovers?
Yes Virginia, there is a link between telework
and love. Sometimes the link is good, and sometimes it's not so good.
But it almost always brings a smile or two -- which is the aim of this
section. Here goes:
Respondent in
Flexible
Working Survey 2004 (by Netilla Networks) said she was
certain that it would perk up her love life as she'd at least have the
energy to spend quality time with her husband if she didn't have to endure
such long hours and her daily commute.

Canada
Survey finds telework is good
for your love life
InnoVisions Canada asked teleworkers
which of their relationships telework affected the most. Of the almost 250
respondents, 35% said it was their love lives -- not surprising given that
teleworkers are less stressed and have more free time at home (close to the
bedroom?). A comment from one the respondents underscores the relationship:
"Being at home with my wife during the day has improved our love life -
afternoon delights during coffee breaks and all". See full survey results

Telework escort service
While a couple of years old, this National
Post story describes a humorous City of Edmonton bylaw that allows
prostitutes to work from home, and explains the city's intent to hold
mandatory classes for independent escorts about the health and tax

Work Naked
Cynthia Froggatt's
book: "Work Naked:
Eight Essential Principles for Peak Performance in the Virtual
Workplace" sure caught my attention. Given that sex really does seem to
sell, the title must have helped sell more books.
Long hours can damage your
sex life
While most teleworkers work more productively
and work fewer hours, some become workaholics. A CIPD survey
report called 'Married to the Job', found that people who work
excessively long hours are damaging their health, their sex lives and their
family relationships. The results showed that almost 70% of the partners of
people who worked more than 48 hours a week felt that this was having a
negative effect on their relationship, and over half said their sex life had
suffered.
In the same vein, my colleague, Gil Gordon's
book: "TURN IT OFF: How to Unplug from the Anytime-Anywhere Office
Without Disconnecting Your Career (Three Rivers Press, 2001)" touches
on what happens when the laptop invades the bedroom? Gil says: "It's
bad enough when people bring work home and let it commandeer their free
time. It's much worse, though, when the workplace creeps into the one room
that should be a sanctuary from the everyday grind - the bedroom."
Telework affects
marriages In an About.com
survey, 50% of
respondents said 'yes' to the question: "Has telecommuting affected
your marriage?"
