Telus

June 2009  Jeff Lowe, vice-president of marketing for Telus, said the company formally adopted a telework program in 2007 and today about 18,500 employees, about half its domestic workforce, is involved.

On average, about 16,000 people a week work outside of the office. On a given day, about 6,500 employees telework.

Lowe said the initiative offers increased quality of life for workers and is a bonus for the company in attracting and retaining top talent. It also has provided operational savings for Telus and benefits to the environment.

A week-long study of 170 team members at Telus who telework showed 14,000 hours of commuting saved, $125,000 savings for fuel and maintenance of vehicles, and 114 tonnes of emissions saved.
